Chippenham man charged with attacking woman during argument

A Chippenham man has been charged with attacking a woman during an argument.

41-year-old Russell Bond appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Saturday).

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said he is alleged to have accused a woman sleeping with other people before smashing wine glasses and flipping a coffee table.

During the incident on 19 October, it’s claimed the defendant grabbed the woman around the throat with one hand and repeatedly hit her head on railings.

Due to the seriousness of the charges – assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation – magistrates declined jurisdiction over the case.

Bond, of Ailesbury Close, Chippenham, was released on bail with conditions not to contact the woman directly or indirectly or go to the road in which she lives.

He is next due to appear before Swindon Crown Court on 22 December.
