One casualty rescued from serious flat blaze by firefighters in east Swindon

A casualty has been rescued from a serious flat fire in Swindon.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called the blaze, which has destroyed the ground floor apartment’s living room and kitchen, at around 9pm.

On arrival, firefighters witnessed huge flames protruding from the windows of the property on Twickenham Close which overlooks Dorcan Way.

As the fire was being extinguished to gain entry, one person was found and rescued from the flat; they were handed over to South Western Ambulance Service with minor injuries.

The block of flats were evacuated for around one hour while the blaze was tackled.

It is understood that working fire alarms helped save the occupant’s life.

A fire investigation in now underway.
