Campervan destroyed in Calne fire – investigation probes cause of blaze

A campervan has been destroyed in a fire in Calne.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Dixon Way at around 3.30am this morning (24 August) following reports of the vehicle ablaze.

The campervan was unsalvagable, and two nearby vehicles are understood to have been damaged in the incident.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This morning we were called to reports of a large vehicle fire on a residential street in [Calne].

“Due to the location of the incident a second fire engine was also mobilised from Chippenham Fire Station. Once in attendance we were greeted with camper van well alight.

“2 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and a main 45mm jet were used to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage to surrounding vehicles. Wiltshire Police also attended along with a fire investigation officer and enquires are on going into the cause.”
