Calne man sentenced for life-changing glass attack on victim in nightclub

A man who seriously assaulted his victim in a Royal Wootton Bassett nightclub has avoided prison.

Last year, 28-year-old Ashley Raeburn, of Macaulay Square, Calne, violently attacked Aflie Holloway, 23, with a glass, leaving him with what the court described as life-changing injuries.

The late-night assault happened on Saturday 21 September 2019 at the Oriental Aroma restaurant in High Street, which doubles up as a nightclub named Venue Five-0 at weekends.

In Swindon Magistrates Court on Friday, Raeburn admitted one count of actual bodily harm (ABH) and was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment suspended for 24 months. He will have to have to comply with all requirements of a supervision period and complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay his victim £3,000 in compensation, £122 to victim services and Crown Prosecution Service costs of £85.
