Calne man charged with killing woman, 18, and seriously injuring others in crash

A Calne man has been charged with killing a woman and seriously injuring others in a crash.

18-year-old Bethany Gumm died when a Ford Fiesta she was a passenger in collided with a tree in The Mead, Westbury, at around 11.40pm on 5 February last year.

Two other female passengers of the vehicle – a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman – sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

Wiltshire Police has charged 21-year-old Jamielee Hitt, also known as Jay, with death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence and causing death by driving a vehicle without insurance.

He also faces two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, relating to the injured passengers.

The defendant, of Page Close, Calne, is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

It’s likely – due to the nature of the charges – the case will be sent to a crown court and adjourned.
