Bullet holes in windows after “reckless and dangerous” shooting in Swindon

Photographs taken by Wiltshire 999s show bullet holes in the window of a home in Swindon following a shooting last night, Saturday 9 October.

Armed police officers were deployed to the serious incident in Warneford Close, Toothill, at around 9.40pm, Wiltshire Police said.

Local residents say they heard a total of five gunshots just after 9.30pm, though only three appear to have made contact with the bedroom window.

The area was cordoned off as a crime scene a short time later an investigation was launched into the shooting at a family home in the residential road.

At the front of the house, at least two bullet holes could be seen in an upper bedroom window – whilst to the left, a children’s doll could be spotted on the windowsill of an undamaged room.

To the rear a downstairs window appeared smashed, however, it’s not clear if the damage was caused by a gunshot or another weapon.

Nobody was hurt during the incident, and the force says the victim and suspects involved in the incident are believed to be known to each other.

Forensics are expected to attend the scene today as detectives continue to probe the shooting which could quite easily have claimed the lives of a family residing at the address.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Jacobs labelled the attack as “a reckless and dangerous act”.

She said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation but urge anyone with any information to come forward.

“An incident like this in a residential street is a reckless and dangerous act and it is fortunate that we are not dealing with a serious tragedy as a result of these actions.

“We’d like to reassure the public that we are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and there will be an increased police presence as a result.”
