Bomb squad rush to bakery after wall collapse exposes ‘explosive device’

The bomb squad rushed to a bakery in Amesbury after a possible explosive was discovered.

Police are in attendance at Reeve the Baker in Salisbury Street, after being called earlier today (Thursday).

It’s understood a wall – which belongs to The New Inn – collapsed at the rear of the bakery. As builders worked to clear the rubble, they discovered a concerning item.

The army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are on scene and dealing with the suspected explosive device.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: 2We were called to reports of suspected explosives were found by builders in Salisbury Street, Amesbury at around 9.50am this morning (02/02).

“The EOD unit (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) are on the scene and have cordoned off 100 meters in a field nearby to safely dispose the package.”
