Bloody crime scene in Chippenham as police investigate attempted burglary

A pool of blood was left at the scene of an attempted burglary in Chippenham overnight.

Wiltshire Police were alerted to the incident at Monkton Park Golf Course shortly before 8am this morning (25 September).

A forensic investigator was sent to the scene, where three male suspects were caught on CCTV trying to force entry into the building off Sadlers Mead.

It’s believed the attempted break-in occurred at around midnight, with the offenders making efforts to get into the Tenth Hole Tea Room and the golf course workshop.

During the incident, one of the males was spotted urinating on a statue. Two CCTV cameras were broken when the suspects attempted to remove them from the wall.

A pool of blood, covered by a large box to hide it from the view of customers, could be seen near the damaged workshop door.

Wendy Claridge, who owns the establishment with her husband Peter, said she knew something was wrong as soon as they arrived to open up for the day.

“I know something was wrong because the little gate was open and I remember closing it. Then I saw the hatch was op, and I remember closing that too”, she told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding: “One of them stood in front of the camera having a wee, you can clearly see it on the footage.”
