Atworth service station cordoned off as crime scene following burglary

A service station in rural Wiltshire was cordoned off as a crime scene this morning (Thursday).

Police raced to reports of a burglary at Central Convenience on the A365 in Atworth at around 2am.

Suspects forced entry to the building and stole at least hundreds of pounds worth of tobacco products.

It’s understood both front and rear doors have sustained damage, as has the cigarette cabinet inside.

The Texaco service station forecourt has been cordoned off by officers as they await forensics. The business is expected to remain closed until this afternoon.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a burglary from a garage on Bath Road, Atworth in the early hours of this morning.

“Our officers were alerted to an intruder alarm being set off around 2.20am, and found the building had been broken into with the cigarette dispenser having been forced open.

“We have been carrying out house to house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage and believe three suspects were involved.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious or has dash cam footage from the area around that time. Please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54230046648.”
