UPDATE: Armed police deployed amid reports of ‘gunman’ near Swindon school


Armed police stormed a house in Swindon following a ‘disorder’ this afternoon (Friday).

It came after officers raced to reports of a serious incident unfolding in a park, near Nova Hreod School, off Akers Way at around 3pm.

A short time later, police closed Northern Road as firearms officers attended a house there.

The National Police Air Service helicopter, from Bristol, circled overhead whilst the property was raided.

The ‘disorder’ reportedly involved at least one person armed with a weapon, sparking a firearms response.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police warned people to stay away from the area whilst they deal with the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident in the park near to Nova Hreod School off Akers Way, Swindon, following a report at approximately 3pm today regarding a disorder.

“Please avoid the area while officers conduct their enquiries.

“We are aware of a number of witnesses to the disorder – if this was you and you have mobile phone footage of the incident, please call 101 and quote log number 163 of today.”
