Armed police officers descend on Melksham as ‘gunman’ sighted near primary school

Armed police officers descended on Melksham yesterday afternoon, after 999 call came in about a man carrying a handgun.

Wiltshire Police received the call at just before 2pm on Tuesday, immediately tasking the Tri-force Armed Response team to attend the scene and locate the gunman.

Police attended an address in Halifax Road, near Bowerhill Primary School, and located the man. On speaking to the occupants of the property, it was discovered to be a replica used for re-enactments.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The owner was given words of advice by police.

“No arrests were made and nobody was injured. The scene was clear by 3.30pm.”
