Armed police were deployed amid reports of a ‘gunman’ near a Swindon school.

At 3pm, officers were called to reports of a disorder in a park opposite Nova Hreod School in Akers Way.

Following reports of a potential firearm being brandished at the scene, armed police were deployed to deal with the incident alongside a dog unit and helicopter.

A house in Northern Road, Pinehurst, was raided by officers after they pointed police-issue firearms at the building from behind their marked and unmarked BMW X5 armed response vehicles.

Wiltshire Police say that no arrests have been made and claim there is no evidence of a firearm being used by any of those involved in the reported disorder.

A video seen by Wiltshire 999s shows a small number of people involved in an altercation in a field off Akers Way – but there was no sign of a weapon involved.

In a statement, the force said: “At around 3pm today (24/03) we responded to a disorder in the park near to Nova Hreod School off Akers Way, Swindon.

“We are aware of concerns and media reporting of a potential sighting of a firearm at the scene.

“Following extensive enquiries by armed officers in the surrounding area, we have no confirmed sightings of a firearm and no evidence to suggest there was a firearm at the scene.

“Our investigation into the incident is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.

“Anyone with information on the disorder or who witnessed it is encouraged to contact us on 101 and quote log number 163 of today.”
