Armed police deploy drone to successfully locate suspected car thief in Swindon

Police have arrested a suspected car thief in Swindon with the help of a drone.

Officers were carrying out searches for a vehicle spotted travelling through the town whilst displaying false number plates this morning (8 March).

At around 9.30am, the car was located abandoned in the area of Dean Street.

Numerous police vehicles were seen to swarm the location as officers searched for the driver.

An armed response vehicle arrived on blue lights – with a firearms officer immediately deploying a specialist drone into the skies above.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that a 35-year-old man, suspected of stealing the car, was arrested nearby a short time later.

The man remains in police custody, held on suspicion of vehicle theft.
