Armed police called to Chippenham home after man seriously hurt in attack

Police were called to a home in Chippenham following an attack on Friday morning.

Local residents reported seeing armed officers and hearing screams in Heathfield, on the Hill Rise estate, at around 12pm yesterday (23 December).

Wiltshire Police said it responded to reports of an assault inside a house at around 11.40am.

A man, aged in his 50s, suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital. His injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 26-year-old, whose gender was not confirmed by the force, was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

It’s not clear whether a weapon was involved and Wiltshire Police did not confirm whether firearms officers were deployed to the incident.
