Armed police swarm Bradford on Avon after man ‘brandishes weapon’

Armed police swarmed Bradford on Avon for an incident last night (Wednesday, 13 September).

Firearms officers were deployed following reports of a man with a weapon in a field near Woolley Grange Farm at around 9.30pm.

A National Police Air Service helicopter and a dog unit supported specialist officers and local units that were in attendance.

On searching for the suspect, he was arrested at The George pub on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The man, aged in his 40s, remains in custody for questioning.

Officers on scene last night recovered a small knife following the incident. But this morning (Thursday), police were continuing to search the area for discarded weapons.

Wiltshire Police did not confirm what type of weapon the man was reportedly brandishing – but a local resident claimed he was armed with a gun.

Another said they heard what they believed to be gunshots during the commotion. However, there’s nothing to suggest anyone was hurt or that any firearms were discharged.
