Animal rights campaigners protest outside Wiltshire abattoir as horses arrive

Half a dozen animal rights campaigners have staged a protest outside an abattoir today.

They group, who say they are affiliated to any official organisation, were seen stood outside F Drury and Sons on the A3102 Tockenham, between Royal Wootton Bassett and Lyneham, for most of Tuesday.

During their protest a number of lorries containing adult horses and foals were delivered for slaughter. It’s thought around 20 horses were killed by midday today.

The vegan campaigners were armed with signs saying “Friends Not Food” and Animals Are Not Property” were met with both support and opposition from passing motorists.

The group believe the horse meat will be used for animal food products or shipped to France.

We contacted F Drury and Sons for comment this morning, but have not yet received a response.
