Air ambulance lands for serious crash involving ‘multiple vehicles’ on M4

A serious crash involving ‘multiple vehicles’ has closed the M4 in both directions tonight.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was among the large numbers of emergency services tasked to the incident between junctions 15 and 14 at around 9pm.

The collision is believed to be in the Baydon area, and at the minimum involved a overturned van and a car.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Swindon to the scene, but say no casualties were trapped and no action was required by firefighters.

Highways England has confirmed the motorway is closed both directions, but officers are working to remove trapped vehicles from the queues ahead of the scene.

A spokesperson said: “If you’re planning on making an essential journey this evening on the M4 eastbound in Wiltshire please allow additional time for your journey and consider alternative routes (if possible).”
