A419 closed as person on bridge ‘sectioned’ in mental health incident

The A419 was closed due to a mental health incident last night (Wednesday, 25 October).

Police were called to reports of a distressed person on a footbridge over the busy carriageway in the Blunsdon area at around 9.30pm.

Officers engaged with the person before detaining them under the Mental Health Act. They were taken to a place for safety for assessment and treatment.

The A419 was closed in both directions whilst the incident was dealt with – reopening at around 11pm.
