A36 in Salisbury closed as car overturns in road traffic collision

The A36 in Salisbury is closed following a road traffic collision this afternoon (Monday).

A large number of 999 crews, including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, were called to the scene in Churchill Way South at around 1pm.

Firefighters attended the incident, extricating a casualty from the flipped Volkswagen and handing them over to waiting ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently in attendance at a collision just off the college roundabout in Churchill Way South, Salisbury. It is believed one vehicle is involved.

Both sides of the carriageway are currently closed while the ambulance service provide care to those involved. Please seek an alternative route while the incident is dealt with.”

At the time of publication, police remained at the scene and the road remained closed. It’s not clear how many vehicles were involved, but only one damaged car appeared within the cordoned off area.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Churchill Way South, Salisbury at 1.11pm today (21 August) following a road traffic collision.

“Two crews from Salisbury attended, and one person had to be extricated from their car, which was on its roof. Our stop was at 2.20pm and we will soon be leaving the scene.”
