Shoppers take down robber threatening to STAB people with NEEDLES in Tesco Express

Members of the public stepped in to help a lone police officer who was dispatched to an attempted robbery at a Tesco Express in Swindon this evening.

The man, thought to be in his 30s, entered the store and took money from the tills at around 5pm, as he threatened to stab shoppers and staff with dirty needles.

During the robbery attempt, a single police officer arrived at the scene, attempting to detain the suspect. There was a tussle and members of the public helped the office to arrest him.

Eyewitnesses, who were nearby at the time of the incident, described the perpetrator as being a tall man with brown hair wearing a black cap and a high-vis vest.

The store, in Freshbrook, was closed for an hour before reopening.

Despite hearsay that one person was stabbed during the incident, as Wiltshire 999s understands, no one suffered injuries that needed treatment by the ambulance service.

At the scene, the store manager refused to comment; we’ve approached Tesco for a statement.
