50 firefighters from four counties battle major blaze at Household Waste Recycling Centre

Fire crews from across Wiltshire, Somerset, Hampshire and Oxfordshire have been tackling a major fire on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate in Swindon overnight.

Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters were at the incident at the Household Waste Recylcing Centre on Darby Close for much of the early hours of Wednesday.

The fire involved a conveyor belt on the site, according to a source.

Two fire crews remain at the scene this morning.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service advised businesses and residents in the vicinity of the fire are being asked to close their windows and doors due to smoke.

The fire crews from outside the Wiltshire border included: an engine and an aerial appliance from Bath, one engine from Faringdon and one water bowser from Andover.
