Road closed as charity van becomes wedged under Swindon town centre bridge

Pedestrians in Swindon were faced with an unusual sight this afternoon, witnessing six people bouncing up and down inside a van which was stuck under a railway bridge.

Police officers closed the road, off Great Western Way, when a British Heart Foundation van became stuck under Whitehouse Bridge in the town centre at around 12.30pm today.

In a successful attempt to remove the tall vehicle, a group of six people jumped up and down inside the back of the van while a police officer reversed it out.

The van was then put on the back of a recovery vehicle and the road reopened at 1.30pm.

Network Rail were on scene to oversee the removal of the van and check for damage.
