Biker in life-threatening condition after crash near Chippenham

A biker is in a life-threatening condition after a crash near Chippenham.

Emergency services were called to A342 Old Derry Hill at around 2pm today (Sunday) follow a two-vehicle road traffic collision on a steep bend.

The incident involved a black Mercedes GLA 200 and a motorcycle – which appears to have impacted the front of the car head-on.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was tasked and attended the scene in a critical care car an the helicopter, which landed in a field nearby.

The biker, a man aged in his 60s, sustained signifiant injuries and was subsequently airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. His family are aware.

The two occupants of the car were uninjured and taken home by the police. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A full forensic collision investigation is being carried out by specialist officers, with the road expected to remain closed until the early hours of Monday morning (4 March).

The route is closed between the A4 London Road and Church Road in Derry Hill.
