Attempted murder arrest as woman, 24, stabbed in head and neck

The woman was treated in Bath before being rushed to hospital

A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in the head and neck.

Emergency services were called to Dransfield Way, near Coronation Avenue, in Bath, at around 4.20pm on Monday (26 February) following reports of a violent attack.

On arrival, a 24-year-old woman was found to have sustained knife wounds to her head and neck. She was treated behind Ivy Avenue by first responders.

The victim was then taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, the nearest major trauma centre, for urgent care. She remains in a critical but stable condition today (Tuesday).

Her family has been informed and they are being supported, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

In a statement, the force said: “Officers would like to thank members of the public who came to the woman’s aid at the time.

“Police are treating this as an isolated incident and there is no evidence of any wider risk to the public.

“Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days and the neighbourhood team will be carrying out high-visibility reassurance patrols, so do please talk to officers if you have any concerns.”
