The bomb squad were called to Bradford on Avon yesterday (Sunday, 14 January).
Police cordoned off the Bull Pit following the discovery of a suspected explosive at 4.20pm.
The potentially deadly item was fished out of the River Avon and Explosive Ordinance Disposal technicians were tasked with disposing of it safely.
The area was closed, with officers guarding it to ensure public safety for several hours.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the item was later “safely removed”.
