She sustained significant injuries and is understood to have been airlifted to Southmead Hospital by Wiltshire Air Ambulance in a life-threatening condition.

Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that the police helicopter was tasked after a man reportedly fled the scene on a quad bike, but he was located and arrested.

The suspects, aged 29 and 30 and from the Cotswolds, were questioned in custody, held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, driving while under the influence of drugs, no licence and no insurance.

The road was reopened at around 10pm following a forensic collision investigation.

The force is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the quad bike being driven prior to the incident, to contact them by submitting a form online, quoting incident 251 of 23 December.
