Wiltshire route closed as air ambulance scrambled to serious crash

A Wiltshire route has been closed following a serious crash this afternoon (Thursday).

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A338 in the Charlton All Saints area, near Salisbury, at approximately 1pm.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was scrambled to assist local ambulance crews on scene.

One vehicle – a car – overturned onto its side in the traffic collision. Three people were hurt.

One of the casualties, with serious injuries, was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Southampton General Hospital for urgent medical care.

Two other people were taken to hospital by land ambulance.

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 12:25hrs on Thursday 21 December to a road traffic incident on the A338 near Charlton-All-Saints.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and two air ambulances. We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital and two patients by land ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital.”

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the road closure is likely to remain for “the next few hours”.
