At Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Saturday), the defendant spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, alleged that Al-Jayoosi “sent emails and made threats to the Member of Parliament over the issues in Israel and Gaza.”

He said the communication caused Mr Tomlinson “serious concern”.

Legal advisor Sangit Purewal advised the bench that due to the nature of the case, only the Chief Magistrate can deal with it.

Mr Ballinger asked for a remand in custody and Ian Jobling, defending, said he was not making an application for bail.

The magistrates remanded Al-Jayoosi in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 29 November.
