Girl, 13, struck by van seriously injured as police close Swindon route

A teenage girl struck by a van in Swindon has been seriously injured, police say.

Emergency services were called to the road traffic collision on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate at around 5pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

A white Renault van hit the girl – aged 13 – close to the Rodbourne Road roundabout.

As a result, she sustained a significant leg injury, and was treated by Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics and local ambulance crews.

The teenager has been rushed to hospital, believed to be John Radcliffe in Oxford, for urgent treatment.

Cheney Manor Industrial Estate is closed between Rodbourne Road and Darby Close, and is likely to remain closed for some hours.

Forensic Collision Investigation Unit is in attendance, with enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident ongoing.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the driver of the van is not suspected of committing any offences at this time and has been taken home.
