Part of South Marston Industrial Estate is partly closed off as firefighters work to make the scene safe – with a 100 metre cordon in place.

The fire appears to be in close proximity to an industrial unit, which is currently at risk.

Stirling Road, Wellington Road and Viscount Way are also cordoned off – closed to motorists and pedestrians.

It’s understood the local gas and electricity supplies have been turned off.

Fire crews from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea are in attendance, working alongside Wales and West Utilities.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is warning people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson said: “Firefighters in Swindon are working alongside Wales and West Utilities to deal with an ignited gas leak in Stirling Road near South Marston Industrial Estate.

“A 100m cordon is in place which is affecting entrance/exit from the estate. Please avoid the area.”
