Dogs seized after police called to suspected hare coursing near Calne

Two dogs were seized after police were called to suspected hare coursing near Calne.

Officers responded to reports from members of the public that a group of males had been seen in fields with lurchers off the A361 in the Cherhill area on Sunday (5 November).

As the Rural Crime Team arrived at around 2pm, the suspects left the fields and made off in a vehicle – driving at high speed – before the driver was stopped by a traffic officer on the A4.

Two passengers within the vehicle made off on foot and despite the efforts of a dog unit and the National Police Air Service helicopter, they were not located.

The Land Rover driver was arrested for daytime trespass in the pursuit of game under Section 30 Game Act was also reported for driving with no insurance.

The vehicle was seized, along with the two dogs contained within it.

Wiltshire Police said that enquiries are still ongoing and ask people to contact them by calling 101 quoting reference 54230117136 with any information.
