Pilot makes emergency landing in Melksham after ‘losing power mid-flight’

A pilot made an emergency landing in Melksham after his plane ‘lost power mid-flight’.

A significant number of emergency services were deployed following reports of the light aircraft coming down in a field off Semington Road at around 12.30pm.

On their arrival, first responders found a Scheibe SF-25C Falke near Holdbrook Dairy Farm in Berryfield Lane – but those in the plane were miraculously uninjured.

It’s believed the aircraft lost power in Steeple Ashton area, near Trowbridge, before the pilot managed to complete a safe landing.

A local resident said: “Phew. I saw his engine stop over my house whilst hanging the washing. No one hurt, phew. Credit to the pilot on getting it down safely.”

By 3pm, emergency crews had left and several people had arrived to collect the plane – which was dissembled and loaded onto a trailer.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “A light aircraft has come down in a field off Semington Rd, Melksham.

“Officers were called to the incident just after 12.30 lunchtime. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.”
