Four-year-old airlifted after driver ploughs car into tree near Swindon

Two young children are in hospital following a crash on a country road near Swindon.

Emergency services were called to the road traffic collision in Bushton, situated between Lyneham and Broad Hinton, at around 3pm today (Thursday).

A grey Vauxhall Astra ploughed into a tree, sparking a significant 999 response – including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which landed in a nearby field.

Wiltshire 999s understands the driver took a bend too fast in wet conditions and lost control.

A four-year-old was airlifted to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for treatment.

They sustained an injury that requires surgery – but it is not not believed to be life-changing or threatening.

A one-year-old was taken to hospital by land ambulance with minor injuries.

The two other occupants of the vehicle – both adults – also suffered only minor injuries.

The road, near Woodhall Park Farm, was closed in both directions until about 5pm.
