Nearby Ridgeway School, in Inverary Road, was also locked down as police responded to the incident on Tuesday 11 July.

The defendant, who lives on the same road and about 100 metres from the schools, was detained by officers. However, PCs Salmon and Kavanagh were assaulted during the arrest.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court two days later, Maull pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a bladed article on school grounds, possession of an offensive weapon on school grounds and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

She also admitted damaging a fire alarm system whilst on site and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.

At Swindon Crown Court on 25 August, Maull – who has mental health issues – was sentenced to 14 months in prison for her crimes. She must also pay a £187 surcharge.

At the time, Inspector Joe Senior said: “This was a concerning incident for everyone involved – thankfully Maull was swiftly arrested and no children or staff were harmed.

“Staff at the schools acted calmly and professionally, following established procedures to protect those in their care.”

In June 2022, the defendant was convicted of sneaking into The Ridgeway School and writing phrases in her own blood around the building. She was caught when an intruder alarm activated.
