21 sunflowers left for mum who died in Devizes bridge horror crash

21 sunflowers have been left for a Devizes mum who died in a horror crash five years ago.

Karly Heweson sustained fatal injuries when a car she was travelling in collided with Prison Bridge on the A361 and landed on the towpath below on 27 August 2018.

Following the incident, dangerous driver Brad Hayden – who was intoxicated – was jailed for four years and banned from the roads for five years.

In preparation for the five-year anniversary of Karly’s death today (Sunday, 27 August), yesterday her family placed 21 sunflowers on the bridge – representing her age at the time of her passing.

This morning, Karly’s mother Julie Woods said: “I still cannot put into words the heartbreak, the devastation, the complete annihilation of our lives since that night.

“It took Your future, your hopes and dreams. Your life. It took Joshies Mummy. And it took My beautiful, wonderful, kind, clever and funny darling daughter. My heart and soul.

“And yet our lives go on. We love you, we miss you and our broken hearts ache for you every day. 5 years.”

In a touching tribute made via Wiltshire Police days after the crash occurred in 2018, her family wrote:

“Karly was the most beautiful, kind, loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin a family could ever ask for. She was a free spirit and wonderful young lady with so much to live for.

“Just under two years ago she became a mother to beautiful Joshua giving us the most precious grandson. Karly was a fantastic mum and we were looking forward to making lots more happy memories with her and Joshua.

“It is impossible to put into words just how devastated we are to have lost our Karly so suddenly and in such tragic circumstances – the pain we feel is indescribable and she will leave such a huge hole in our lives. Her energy, beauty and love of life will live on in her son JJ.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has sent us messages of support – we have been overwhelmed by your kindness and the sheer volume of messages is testament to just how popular Karly was.”
