Wiltshire Police issue statement on huge ‘crime scene’ in Swindon

Police have issued a statement in relation to a huge ‘crime scene’ in Swindon.

Inglesham Road, Newton Way, Semley Walk and part of ‘Flower Park’ have been cordoned off as part of an ongoing investigation yesterday morning (Saturday, 19 August).

Up until this morning (Sunday), it was a mystery as to why – but now Wiltshire Police has provided some clarity on the situation.

The force confirmed that officers are carrying out searches in the area. However, the spokesperson remained tight-lipped about what police were looking for.

In a statement, it said: “Officers are conducting searches in the Inglesham Road area of Penhill as part of an ongoing police investigation and as a result Inglesham Road has been cordoned off whilst this work is carried out.

“Due to the nature of the investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The nature of the incident that sparked the major probe remains unclear.

People living in the area have to check in with officers guarding the huge area and be escorted to their homes, but say they’ve not been told anything about the investigation.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Wiltshire 999s that they were ‘shocked’ by the police presence and “scared” there may have been a stabbing or shooting.

Police officers were guarding the scene overnight

“There are so many rumours going round at the moment I don’t know what to believe but the police just won’t say anything. One copper even said they had no idea and were just there to guard it, yeah right”, they commented.

Adding: “My friend heard there was a shooting but another person said a few people were stabbed so who knows what to believe. The police just refuse to tell us why.

“It’s usually quite round here. It’s shocking to see see many of them [police] and scary to think that might have happened I hope you [Wiltshire 999s] find out soon.”
