A419 closed in Swindon after woman’s body discovered at roadside

The A419 in Swindon was closed after the discovery of a woman’s body at the roadside this morning (Friday).

Emergency services were called to the major route, close to the Rat Trap junction, shortly before 6am.

A woman — who was located alongside the carriageway near the bridge over Highworth Road — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives attended the location and ruled out any suspicious circumstances. Her family have been informed.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Earlier this morning we closed the A419 in Swindon from the White Hart roundabout to the Rat Trap roundabout following the discovery of a woman who was sadly deceased beside the carriageway.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

“The woman’s next of kin have been informed of the tragic news and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

All road closures in the area have been lifted.
