Police helicopter up over Swindon driver crashes car and flees scene

A police helicopter was put up over Swindon following a crash on Sunday (23 July).

It followed an road traffic collision involving a car hitting railings in Drove Road, near Chandler Close, at around 11.45pm.

The occupants of the vehicle – at least three people – decamped and officers started a search.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was called in to assist – circling Old Town, Lawn Woods and Old Walcot in an urgent hunt for those involved.

Two males, aged 17 and 22, were arrested. They were later de-arrested when officers established that they were only passengers in the vehicle.

Wiltshire Police say nobody is believed to have sustained serious injuries and an investigation is ongoing; the driver is yet to be located.
