Police officer assaulted in Highworth as dog called in for drug search

A police officer was assaulted during an incident in Highworth yesterday (Monday, 17 July).

A suspect attempted to flee and following a short foot pursuit, they were detained in a field nearby.

Concerning the male may have discard items during the chase, police dog Bracken was tasked. During a search of a field, a bag of drugs was found hidden in a ditch.

20-year-old Tyrese Flaherty has since been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a class B drug.

The man, of Bratton Close, Penhill, was released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 9 August.
