Man in life-threatening condition after being stabbed in central Swindon

A man is in a life-threatening after being stabbed in central Swindon tonight (Tuesday).

The serious assault took place in Broad Street at around 9pm, sparking a significant emergency response.

Officers taped off the road between Ponting Street and Alfred Street – where the victim, a man in his 40s, was treated by paramedics.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance also attended the scene, landing in the County Ground car park.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “ We have set up a cordon in Broad Street, Swindon, following a serious assault.

“At around 9pm last night (11/07), we received a report that a man in his 40s had been stabbed.

“He is currently being taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.”

They continued: “A scene has been put in place in Broad Street between the junctions with Alfred Street and Ponting Street and will remain in place overnight.

“Please be reassured that there is no threat to the wider public and extensive enquiries are now being carried out.

“Residents are likely to see an increased police presence in the area while we investigate.”

The force has not yet confirmed it any arrests were made.
