Police start investigating suspected arson attack near Trowbridge

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack near Trowbridge.

Emergency services were called to reports of a blaze off Poplar Tree Lane, Southwick, at around 9.30pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, 5 July).

Fire crews from Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon, and a water carrier from Wilton, were sent to tackle the flames – which had engulfed a barn and caravan.

Breathing apparatus wearers used four hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and police were reportedly called to the scene over suspicious circumstances.

Dorset and Wiltshire and Rescue Service said firefighters extinguished the flames and remained on scene until shortly before midnight to dampen down the site. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the force is investigating the incident, with house-to-house enquiries carried out.
