Two police officers were rushed to hospital for treatment, whilst the female driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said that nobody is thought to have been seriously hurt.

Recovery was arranged for the vehicles, and the route reopened about two hours later.

At the height of the incident, eight police vehicles and several ambulance vehicles were in attendance.

It’s not yet clear whether the police van was travelling on blue lights and sirens at the time – or whether a detainee was in the van’s cage at the time.
