A361 closed after vehicle collides with historic Lechlade bridge

The A361 is closed in both directions following a crash involving a historic bridge.

Thames Street in Lechlade is shut this morning (Tuesday) after a vehicle hit Halfpenny Bridge.

It’s unclear when exactly the collision occurred, but it’s thought to have been in the early hours.

Three metres of the bridge wall was demolished in the incident near The Riverside pub – leaving a dangerous gap above the River Thames.

It’s currently unknown for how long the road will be closed, but it’s likely to be blocked for today.

There are significant traffic issues locally as motorists divert via neighbouring villages.
