Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended in their helicopter and a rapid response vehicle – transporting two critical care paramedics and a critical care doctor -and worked local ambulance crews.

After stabilising the patient at the roadside by around 7.45pm, he was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for urgent treatment.

It’s understood the incident involved a car, as well as the cyclist – but the circumstances around how the man became injured are still under investigation.

When police attended, the vehicle was no longer at the location, however, officers have since seized it as part of the probe. It’s not yet known if the driver was arrested.

The road is closed in both directions – to motorists and pedestrians – between Queensway and Coronation Road whilst collision investigation work is carried out.

Witnesses or anyone with may have dashcam footage are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597. Alternatively, email [email protected].
