Police close busy Wiltshire route after woman seriously hurt in crash

A busy Wiltshire route has been closed following a serious road traffic collision.

Emergency services were called to the A342 at Wilsford after reports of a two-vehicle crash at around 3.30pm this afternoon (Thursday).

Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics responded in a rapid response vehicle alongside local ambulance crews, firefighters from Pewsey and police.

A white BMW X1 and a black Jeep were involved in the head-on collision, with both drivers hurt in the impact. Neither vehicle contained any other occupants.

A woman was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, the nearest major trauma centre, to be treated for serious injuries.

A man was taken to a local hospital with less serious injuries.

Police have closed the road in both directions between Chirton and Rushall as collision investigation work is carried out at the scene. The closure is expected to last into the night.
