The road, off Homington Avenue, was cordoned off by police as local residents were evacuated.

Two fire engines attended the scene and it’s understood crews dealt with a ‘suspicious substance’.

South Western Ambulance Service sent numerous resources to the incident, including a bronze commander and inter-agency liaison officer – but nobody’s believed to have been injured.

The scene was declared safe at around 6pm and the cordon was lifted shortly before 7pm as emergency services were stood down.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was police-led and could not comment on the circumstances.

Full details about the incident are not yet known; Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
