Rape investigation sparks major investigation as police guard cemetery

A cemetery in Oxfordshire is being guarded by police following a reported rape.

It’s claimed Thames Valley Police cordoned off the graveyard in Coach Lane, Faringdon, on Monday (1 May) after a woman reported being attacked in the area.

The rape is said to have taken place at approximately 9pm on Sunday evening (30 April).

The force says officers are “in the early stages of investigating” and confirmed that a crime scene is in place at the location.

On social media, there was a suggestion that those attending the cemetery to visit loved ones were being turned away by officers guarding the site.

A spokesperson said: “If anyone has any information regarding the incident please call 101 or make a report online quoting reference 43230189079.

“Members of the public may see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and we would advise anyone with concerns to please speak to one of our officers.”
