Driver hits lamppost, car and ambulance in dramatic Swindon incident

A driver hit a lamppost, car and ambulance vehicle in Swindon yesterday (Saturday 22 April).

Emergency services were called to the dramatic incident in Badbury Park at around 7.30pm.

A car collided with a lamppost in Bushton Close before striking a parked car on Homington Avenue and then an ambulance rapid response vehicle.

A National Police Air Service helicopter from Oxford was called to assist at the scene, circling the area for approximately ten minutes before returning to base.

The driver, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and failing to stop for police.

However, it was later discovered he had suffered a medical episode and was de-arrested as he received treatment at the Great Western Hospital a short time later.
