Person dies in fireball as cars explode into flames near Bristol Airport

A person has died in a fireball after numerous cars exploded into flames following a crash.

It happened on the A38 Bridgewater Road at Barrow Gurney, close to Bristol Airport, at around 7.35am this morning (Tuesday).

Emergency services attended the scene and found three vehicles well alight.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters and one person is believed to have died.

The deceased has not yet been identified, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

A second person is being treated by ambulance for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The road is closed between the Airport Tavern and Dial Lane – and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Forensic collision investigation work is being carried out at the location and the route is expected to remain shut for many hours.
