Bassett woman charged with fraud after ‘asking local residents for money’

A woman from Royal Wootton Bassett has been charged with fraud following numerous incidents.

The suspect is alleged to have knocked on doors in the area, asking for cash to fund an urgent trip to hospital for various different reasons.

Police investigated the reports, arresting a woman in connection with the incidents.

Gemma Yates, 30, of Fairfield, has since been charged with fraud offences and is due in court on 31 May.

“We would urge residents to look out for neighbours and report and suspicious individuals approaching properties”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
